Channel manager advantages for hotels
A channel manager is software that connects a hotel's inventory (available rooms and rates) to all online sales channels — Booking.com, Expedia, Airbnb, the hotel's own website and others — and keeps them synced in real time. Without a channel manager, a hotel with bookings on multiple channels risks overbooking with every simultaneous sale. Note: 4Hotel does not yet include a channel manager connected automatically to OTAs — see below what it offers today.
Main channel manager advantages
- Much lower overbooking risk: when a room sells on one channel, the channel manager blocks it automatically on the others.
- Synced rates: you change the price once in the PMS and it updates across all OTAs immediately.
- Wide distribution without manual effort: you can be on 10 channels with the workload of one.
- Per-channel reports: see which OTAs bring profitable bookings and adjust commissions and priorities.
- Availability restrictions: set stop-sell or close-out on one channel without affecting others.
Channel manager vs. manual updates
Channel manager connected via API vs. manual OTA updates comparison
| Criterion | Channel manager (API) | Manual update |
|---|---|---|
| Availability sync | Automatic, within seconds | Manual, 5-15 min per channel |
| Overbooking risk | Low | High under simultaneous traffic |
| Channels managed | Unlimited, same effort | Limited by available time |
How 4Hotel helps
In 4Hotel, sales channels (Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia, Agoda, direct) are tracked: each channel has its commission percentage and the property ID from the extranet, each booking keeps its source, and the per-channel report shows the number of bookings, revenue and commission paid. For bookings entered in 4Hotel, the system checks inventory by room type and rejects overbooking. Automatic (API) connectivity with OTAs is not available yet: availability and rates in the extranet are updated manually, and bookings received on OTAs are entered into 4Hotel.
